Teflon (polytetrafluorethylene, - PTFE)

Teflon F-4 (PTFE) polytetrafluoroethylene - a white thermoplastic material with a waxy texture obtained from tetrafluorethylene by polymerization. Foreign analogues and related trademarks are Teflon (USA), ftoroplast (Russia), fluon (England).

Teflon`s chemical stability exceed noble metals, enamels and special steels. The most deleterious chemical substances (acids, alkaline, oxidants, solvents) do not exert influence on PTFE even with very warm temperature. Teflon is only chemically influenced by alkaline metals, it`s solution in ammonia, trifluoro chlorine and elementary fluorine at high temperature.

Teflon has the lowest friction ratio among constructional materials. Equality of statistical and dynamical friction ratio makes a wide use of Teflon and compositions on basis of Teflon in machinery, especially in friction units as bearings and sliding bearings, movable gasket of piston rings, cuffs - working without any lubrication, limited lubrication or working in a very corrosive environment. Teflon usage in friction units improves gearing reliability and durability, provides stable exploitation in hostile environment, high vacuum and at cryogenic temperatures.

Electronic industry

Combination of high heat resistance and excellent dielectric characteristics allows to use Teflon in electronic industry for wire covering, cables and socket insulation, circuit-board work, electrical machine slot insulation as well as in microwave frequency technology. Teflon operates at temperatures from -269°C up to +260°C, and at that the upper limit is restricted not with the chemical stability loss but with physical-mechanical properties reduction. Melting occurs at +327°С heating, but polymer do not changes in to frictional flow condition up to decay temperature of +415°С.

Medical and pharmaceutical industry

Teflon`s physiological and biological harmlessness explains it`s wide application in medical and pharmaceutical industry. Polytetrafluorethylene is used to manufacture prosthesis replacement for blood vessel , heart vessels, heart valves,  storage reservoirs for blood and serum, drug wrapping and so on.

Food industry and household appliances

In food industry and household appliances Teflon is used for production of roller coating, dough rolling-of , antiadhesion coating and burning proof coatings, gaskets for milk pumps and liquid food pumps.

Teflon feedstocks

Polytetrafluorethylene is very easy to process with turning, drilling, milling and grinding. Supplied in rods with a diameter from 20 mm up to 150 mm and plates with thickness from 1 up to 70 mm. Standard Teflon feedstocks are bars, rods, hubs and disks that are being used after machining for manufacturing gaskets, dielectric, antifriction and chemical-resistant structural components that are working in temperature range of –196°C to + 250°C
